In celebration of ATN’s 2016 Angels in Adoption award, we’re profiling ATN members who have helped ATN win the award — and who have themselves been Angels to families and children.
Late one night I flew into the San Francisco airport and there he stood. Neither one of us was sure we’d recognize the other (since we’d only met one time before) – but it didn’t take us long to find each other. Marc Deprey very hospitably offered to let me stay at his home while attending an attachment conference in 2011. I’d met Marc the year before at this same conference, and he had started volunteering his audio/visual and musical talents for ATN.
Spending the week with Marc, and his lovely wife Renee, was definitely special. We had plenty of time to talk everyday as we commuted into downtown San Francisco. It was shortly after that conference that the “Life as a Parent” video and letter started to take shape. Marc has contributed on a variety of projects and communication efforts for ATN. But the one that has been viewed the most is “Life as a Parent”. If you haven’t seen it – go watch it now.
I’ve had people walk up to our booth or after I’ve given a workshop and thank me for this video – or ask me if I know Marc Deprey. Such a direct, candid, relatable appeal to the world describing the path our children and families walk – and our need for understanding and acceptance!
Thanks Marc – for giving a voice to children and parents with your words, music and talent – that makes you an ATN Angel!
