Emily Nagoski is the co-author of Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle. Burnout is such a reality in today’s world. Emily spoke at ATN’s Creating Trauma Sensitive Schools Conference in February 2022 and she discussed how you can deal with burnout, specifically, when you are working at 110% but not recognized for it. Emily doesn’t preach self-care, although she does promote it. Instead, she insists that we all are enough, just as we are.

Emily says, “Look at your calendar and try to determine when you can take care of yourself!” She then burst into a fit of laughter, knowing there is no spot on that calendar. She emphasizes that rest, human connection, and befriending your inner critic are keys to recovering and preventing burnout. Wellness is a state of action.
