Trauma-Informed Certification - Level 1

Trauma-Informed Certification (Level 1) Credential

The person displaying this badge as a credential has been certified through the Attachment & Trauma Network’s Level 1: Trauma-Informed Certification. (The year on the badge indicates the version of certification, not necessarily the year the credential was earned.)

This credential signifies that the holder has completed the 5-hour certification course and passed the tests with an 80% or above (or successfully tested-out at 80% or above).

This certification means that the holder has passed testing on the following objectives:

  • Understanding how trauma is defined and how applying the “three E’s” from SAMHSA inform us that trauma is not just an event or even that the event was experienced as stressful.  So it is possible for individuals to react differently to potentially traumatizing events/situations.
  • Realizing the prevalence of trauma through the landmark ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Study.  And recognizing what the ACEs study informs us of, as well as its limitations.
  • Defining Resilience and how it’s developed; exploring protective factors and defining what resilience is not.
  • Recognizing key developmental concepts of children’s brains and nervous systems and the impact of trauma/toxic stress on those systems.
  • Distinguishing the four stress responses and how learning and functioning can be impaired by toxic stress.
  • Recognizing the ways that secondary trauma/compassion fatigue can impact an adult’s nervous system…and what needs to be done.
  • Identifying crucial factors in early attachment relationships and those relationships’ influence on resilience, self-regulation and empathy.
  • Defining co-regulation and self-regulation and describing examples of co-regulation.
  • Distinguishing between restorative and punitive discipline methods and understanding how to address systemic obstacles that can lead to retraumatization.
